Using XMOD Pro with DotNetNuke 5.1
I have been developing websites using the open source platform DotNetNuke for a few years now. DotNetNuke provides a great platform to design websites with a backend content management system, also known as a CMS. Do to my current projects requirements I recently purchased and installed XMOD Pro to take advantage of it’s powerful database functions. Upon unzipping the download, I see that the documentation file is a “.chm” file.
What the hell is a chm file. Well after Googling and reading through post I found out it’s some sort of Window html help file, or something. Short story, the file doesn’t play well with Macs. After trying a downloaded converter, I rebooted into Windows XP to try to see if Internet Explorer could open the XMOD Pro documentation cmd file. After “unblocking” permission, the help document was open. Yea!!
Now to get it back to my Mac platform. I simply printed the document to pdf with CutePDF then uploaded the pdfs to my hosting server. Reboot back in Mac and finally downloading the pdf files from my hosting server.
Having used XMOD a lot in the past, I have to say that I am a little disappointed that the help documentation wasn’t provided in the form of a PDF. This is something that could be fixed immediately for those who download the program in the future.
So for you Mac users doing DotNetNuke development here is the XMOD Pro user manual as a PDF – XMP Manual (PDF 2.3 mb)
